About ISTQB and the ‘certified tester’ scheme
Founded in 2002, ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) is a not-for-profit association comprising 66 national boards (including the UKITB) to provide worldwide coverage
ISTQB has defined the Advanced certification as part of their ‘Certified Tester’ scheme that, with over 240,000 certifications, has become the de facto world-wide standard for software testing qualifications.
The ‘Certified Tester’ scheme:
Provides a set of professional qualifications widely-recognised by employers, customers and peers;
Enables software suppliers to hire and train certified testers and thereby gain commercial advantage over their competitors by advertising their tester recruitment and development policies; and
Enables comparison of testing skills across different countries, testers to move across country borders more easily, and multi-national/international projects to have a common understanding of testing issues.
The recommended entry criteria for candidates taking the Model Based Testing Foundation course are as follows:
Have 18 months’ experience in software testing.
Hold the ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing certificate.
Exam
To qualify as an internationally-recognized Certified Foundation Model Based Extension Level Tester and be issued with an ISTQB® Model Based Tester Foundation Extension Level Certificate, delegates must successfully pass the exam administered by the relevant National Board or Examination Provider.
The examination consists of a one-hour exam with 40 multiple choice questions.
It will be a ‘closed book’ examination i.e. no notes or books will be allowed into the examination room.
Duration of 60 minutes (or 75 minutes for candidates taking examinations that are not in their native language). The pass mark is 65% (26 out of 40).
Exam is included in the price

Course was interesting, but practical work didn’t always seem to align with the content – on day 1 it felt like a lot of the content was skimmer over in favour of doing practical work around drawing diagrams, which aren’t examined. Would help if the theory was taught first and then backed up by relevant practical work afterwards.

Angelina was a great instructor, very engaging with a good sense of humour. The course was well paced and was regularly related to issues facing my colleagues. This made the content more manageable and improved learning. Some more practice questions for pre exam revision would have been nice.

Very useful exposure to MBT content, good examples to work through and a good mix of theory vs. practical work. I enjoyed hearing the various experiences Angelina shared with us, and we had many opportunities for questions along the way.
In some places the slides skipped over some of the theory, which was noticed when attempting some of the sample questions in the workbook – so had to skip back and read up on a few things (example – Transformation vs Adaption vs Mixed).
