Syllabus – key points
You’ll build the foundational understanding and practical skills needed to govern AI projects effectively. From ethics to implementation, you’ll learn to align AI delivery with organisational strategy, ensuring accountability, maturity, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Understanding AI governance Explore the foundations of AI governance and why it matters in today’s project environments. This course introduces the AI Project Governance Framework (AIPGF), detailing its purpose, terminology, and lifecycle stages. You’ll learn how AI’s unpredictable and adaptive behaviour challenges traditional project controls, and how the AIPGF provides the structure to manage these differences. By the end, you’ll understand the framework’s building blocks (principles, core values, behaviours, roles and lifecycle stages) and how they come together to support responsible project delivery with AI.
- Managing ethical and legal risk AI introduces new layers of complexity, particularly around ethics, data use, and regulation. You’ll discover how the AIPGF helps you identify and mitigate the ethical and legal risks that arise when deploying AI in project environments. You’ll explore key themes including bias, transparency, accountability, and explainability. Learn how the framework promotes fairness and compliance, and how to apply it in practice to protect your organisation, stakeholders, and end-users. This course is essential for anyone involved in project oversight or regulatory compliance.
- Defining roles and responsibilities Effective AI governance depends on clearly defined accountability. This section details the key roles outlined in the AIPGF, including project sponsors, steering groups, PMOs, delivery teams, AI specialists, and compliance functions. You’ll learn what each role is responsible for, how they interact across the project lifecycle, and how to avoid common gaps in oversight. The course also covers how these roles adapt to different project types and organisational structures, and how responsibilities can be combined when resource constraints exist.
- Applying AIPGF in practice At Practitioner level, the focus is on real-world application. You’ll be guided through tailoring the AIPGF to your organisational context, considering factors like project complexity, risk profile, and existing governance maturity. You’ll use the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) to benchmark your current state and identify areas for improvement. Learn how to integrate the AIPGF with existing project methodologies and how to embed it into day-to-day delivery processes. The course also equips you to handle cultural resistance, foster collaboration between humans and AI, and build trust through structured, ethical governance.
